Lecture on "Soft Skills Required by Employers" – : The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has conducted a lecture to the College students on Tuesday, 21st of February, 2017, in the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH). The lecture was entitled (Soft Skills Required by Employers), presented by two of Saudi experts from the Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden); Engr. Majed ALShanqeeti, Director, ICT-SS Customer Relationships Management, Information & Communication Tech Shared Services, and Mr. Khalid AL Nufaie, Sr. Specialist, HR Planning & Capability Development, Strategic Talent Management. Mr. Khalid AL Nufaie started the lecture by presenting the importance of soft skills to secure a job, using Ma'aden Company as an example. He explained the multiple skills required in the labor market in addition to the academic and certification qualifications. He listed a number of competencies and skills, such as communication skills and teamwork, cooperation and problem-solving skills, and conflict-resolution skills as well the skills of the ability to make decisions, leadership and self-motivation.
Engr. Majed Al-Shangiti started his presentation by presenting the JUC vision and mission and comparing between the educational outcomes of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering - as an example - and the expected input from the new graduate when joining a company, such as Ma'aden. He explained the techniques of summarizing an educational life journey into a 40- minute-interview and what interviewers are looking for, recommending some tips for preparing a resume to secure an interview and some tips to maximize the "employability", such as the appearance and punctuality and the need to convince employers what you can add to the organization and what makes you different from another candidate for the same job.
The lecture was attended by the College Deputy for Academic Affairs, Dr. Saleh al-Zahrani, Dr. Bashir Ghandi, Chairperson for Computer Science and Engineering – Male Branch, Ms. Tabassum Sultana, Chairperson for Computer Science and Engineering – Female Branch, in addition to a number of faculty members from both branches and a large number of male and female students

Seminar on "Teaching Strategies" – : Teaching Strategies seminar discussed some techniques that the faculty members can adopt to improve student learning. Dr. Mariam Elhussein from Dammam University was invited as a speaker. The Speaker insisted that the teaching style should consider the different types of learners like visual, auditory, kinetic etc. and the learning environment needs to be more interactive.

Seminar on "Classroom Management Strategies" – : Professional Development Seminar on Classroom Management. Ms. Navdeep Kaur was invited to give a speech on the said topic to the Computer Science Faculty Members. She discussed several behavior challenges of students like hyperactivity, attention-seeking, distractive students and the strategies to help to improve the behavior management in the classroom. She insisted that every student of the class has to be engaged in the curriculum and she suggested some ways to keep the students engaged. The seminar was fruitful for the faculty members.

Student Project Exhibition – JUC's Female Branch held its annual Student Projects Exhibition on Wednesday 21st of December 2016. The aim of the exhibition was to allow our students a forum to express their creativity, talents and knowledge. A total of 74 projects were exhibited, with all the departments participating. The projects were varied with topics such as marketing and innovation, history and technical projects, recycling and environmental conservation being touched upon. The smart Mirror Application Project from the CS students won the prize.

Hackathon – The hackathon basically is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers were involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers to collaborate intensively on software projects. The event was held in MPH and there more than 100 attendees. 8 teams from CS and MIS departments participated in this event. The teams were judged by Ms. Zasriati Azla Sabot, Ms. Kavitha Ganesan, Ms. Anwar Al Shehri and Ms. Rawan Nassef. The 3 winners were chosen and honoured.

Student – Faculty and Chairperson Meeting – A Faculty-student Meeting was conducted by CS department on 6th December, 2016. Faculty members and students of CS Program attended the said meeting. The main aim of the gathering was to give opportunity to students to raise their concerns, if there is any, and to establish a more conducive learning environment in the department.

Ata'a Charity Campaign – The CS club participated in the campaign by conducting a booth for maintenance services such as installing programs and formatting for low prices.

Programming Languages Day – The main purpose of the activity is to give the CS club members the opportunity to use and present their knowledge of the programming languages and to give the visitors a brief description about the different programming languages in an interesting way. The CS club members discussed about 11 different programming languages.

Workshop on Report Writing – On 2nd November 2016, Ms. Ganesan Kavitha conducted a workshop on "Report Writing" for the CS Trainees who are presently doing Field Training in various companies inside and outside Jubail. The aim of this workshop is to advise the students on how to professionally write the final Field Training Report (FTR). The various sections of FTR were discussed. The Trainees were asked to include proper citations. Presentation and Style of writing the report was also discussed in the workshop.

SABIC Field Visit – A field visit to IT department of SABIC was conducted by Ms. Sara Mulhim for the graduating students. The objective is to bridge the gaps between theory education and the industries and expose the upcoming female IT graduates to different IT career options and work fields available..

Orientation on Field Training – On 19th October 2016, Ms. Ganesan Kavitha conducted a workshop on "Briefing on Field Training" for the CS Trainees who are currently doing Field Training in various companies inside and outside Jubail. The aim of this workshop is to remind the Trainees about the requirements of the Field Training like Weekly Log, Formal Agreement, Field Training Report, etc. The Trainees were also informed about the two visits to be made by the Academic Supervisor to the company. The evaluation by the college on the Field Training Report, Skills Acquired, and Oral Examination were also elaborated to the Trainees.

CS Club is supporting the Pink - Members of the CS club presented a booth in the MPH to support the Breast Cancer campaign, by displaying all the applications that help those who infected with the disease in order to communicate together, attend their events, and read their blogs.

Code & Coffee - A weekly activity, in each and every time there will be a specific technology topic to have a conversation about. At this time, it was a friendly meeting for the new club members, and for the current one's in order to introduce the club activities in the last semester and in the current semester. Then after that the students gathered around a table and discuss the latest technology of the cellphones (iPhone 7) and the shortages in the device, along with the expected problems in the new technology.

Opening ceremony of CS Club and registration – The CS-Club Supervisor present a short Promo and a presentation about the club and its activities in front of the audience in the MPH. At the same time, the CS-Club Officers and Members organized the club booth. They prepared simple gifts for the registered students, and have an interesting introduction for club. The students were so interesting about the plan of the club and we have a high number of registered students..

How to Study the Programming courses – A workshop on how to study the programming courses was given by Ms. Sarah Al Mulhim to freshman students. This workshop was intended for the freshman students to obtain a basic understanding of the approach to be taken when designing a program as well as actually writing small programs to solve specific problems. It was designed for those with no or little prior experience of programming.
