English Language Department

The English Language Department (ELD) began with the establishment of Jubail University College in 2006. At the female branch, the ELD began with a small group of English language teachers who taught the first group of preparatory (PYP) year students registered at JUC.

Since 2010, the ELD has granted students a Bachelor of Arts in English language degree (128 credit hours) with credits distributed fairly evenly over several specialized areas: Translation, Linguistics, Professional Writing, Literature, TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), and a variety of English language skills, such as, academic & public speaking and concentrated grammar courses. (http://ucj.edu.sa/EN/ACADEMICS/ENGLISH/PROGRAM/Pages/default.aspx) The ELD teaches 2 levels of composition (ENGL117 & ENGL118) to students in all majors offered at JUC. The ELD program is currently pursuing accreditation by the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA).

The ELD also oversees the female branch of the English Language Institute (http://jic-tpd.com/about-us/). Its primary role is to instruct female preparatory year students, registered in all majors at JUC, for 1 year (2 semesters), in 20 hours per semester of intensive English language study. Due to English language being the primary language of instruction at JUC, the ELD recognizes its key role in contributing to the success of all specialization (Bachelor) students.

The ELD employs academic professionals who have extensive experience in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) including those with an MA or PhD academic qualification in the areas of Translation, Linguistics, Professional Writing, Literature, and other related language skills.
